The differences are many! Most other commercially available microbial or enzyme products are based on single active components. Often these products have a short shelf life and must be used upon a timely manner. Additionally, a large amount of product (normally in liquid form) is required and the cost-per-ounce is relatively high. Bio-Active® is powder based and has a three-year shelf life from the date of manufacture. This allows the versatility to be used anytime within that time frame as long as stored as recommended. Another important difference is that Bio-Active® is compatible to be used alongside most sanitizers simultaneously while other microbial products are often not compatible with pool water conditions.

Pour the required dosage in a bucket of at least 2 to 3 gallons of water, mix thoroughly then broadcast the mixture in the pool along the outer edge. Please refer to the instructions of the product to learn what dosage quantity is necessary according to your pool size.

Yes, Bio-Active® consists of natural ingredients known to be nonhazardous. There is absolutely NOTHING found in Bio-Active® that is toxic or a pollutant and there are no known allergens in the product. Exposure on the skin or anywhere on the body will cause no harm as the product can simply be dusted or washed off. Because of this, there is no toxic danger of over-dosing your pool with Bio-Active® products.

In most instances you can see results within the first 24 hours, but the product will continue to show results up to the tenth day after application. Please refer to the directions of your product for any additional information.

It is recommended that the pool water be circulated through the pump completely to allow for Bio-Active® to occupy the entire body of water. Once this is done then swimmers are free to enter the pool. There are no known safety precautions to be aware of.

It is best for your pool to be over 65° Fahrenheit (18.3° Celsius) for Bio-Active™ to perform as intended. It can still perform below this temperature, albeit at a much slower pace. The product will cease to perform at all if the water is below 35° Fahrenheit (1.7° Celsius) or above 140° Fahrenheit (60° Celsius).

Chlorine concentration of around 5 ppm would begin degrading performance of Bio-Active™, any concentration below that would not interfere with performance.

If the pool has been treated with products that contain copper sulfate, potassium monopersulfate, zinc sulfate, or similar then it may be likely that Bio-Active® may not yield a result after pool dosing. Prevent using this product for at least a week prior to and during dosage period.

Absolutely! Bio-Active™ is one of the few products available that can be used to treat fish or koi pond water without finding adverse effects which can hurt aquatic life.

Bio-Active™ works naturally at the molecular level to actually separate the elements that make up the composition of Cyanuric Acid. The result is the decomposition of Cyanuric Acid and the eventual reduction of Cyanuric Acid levels in your swimming pool. This is the same process that occurs naturally to cyanuric acid just on a very accelerated timescale. Using a unique feedback loop, Bio-Active™ will reduce Cyanuric Acid levels without removing all stabilizer from the pool where minimum recommended sanitizer is present. In typical applications, Cyanuric Acid levels are reduced to within the recommended target levels.

No, Bio-Active™ is designed to immediately dissipate in water when poured in the skimmer. The product may clump or gather at first but will eventually blend in with the water over a short period of time.

Tests have shown that Bio-Active™ in the pool will NOT interact or affect pH, alkalinity, calcium or water hardness. The product, however WILL indirectly affect chlorine levels: as Cyanuric Acid levels are reduced, the availability of free chlorine will rise.

Bio-Active™ has been designed with a natural feedback loop that in most cases where there is adequate sanitizer levels present in the water, Bio-Active™ will reduce Cyanuric Acid levels down to recommended safe levels and then stop working. So in most instances, it may not be necessary to add additional Cyanuric Acid after treatment.

Due to the natural feedback system mentioned above there is no risk of overdosing. There are no other known negatives of overdosing.

Yes! As Bio-Active™ reduces Cyanuric Acid levels; the chlorine in your pool that is otherwise bound will be freed up and become functional in sanitizing pool water. Note that you may see a rise in the levels of Free Chlorine even though no additional chlorine is added.

For pools that are 25,000 gallons or less and have Cyanuric Acid levels at 200 ppm or less, one 8 ounce pouch may reduce levels of Cyanuric Acid down to 40 – 60 ppm. This is possible because Bio-Active™ has been designed with a natural feedback loop, where there is adequate sanitizer levels present in the water, Bio-Active™ will reduce Cyanuric Acid levels down to recommended safe levels and then stop working. Pools with Cyanuric Acid levels of 200 ppm or more may require a dosage of more than one pouch of Bio-Active™. In such cases, simply measure your Cyanuric Acid levels 7 days after the initial treatment and apply another treatment to get the required reduction.

There are few conditions that need to be met so that Bio-Active™ may be applied. Pool water temperature range for application is 65° and 140° Fahrenheit (18° to 60° Celsius). Chlorine should be below 5 ppm with 2-3 ppm being ideal at the time of and for the week following application. It is highly recommended that the pool be within these ranges so the best results can be reached. Once Bio-Active™ is applied according to instructions, it must be allowed to circulate throughout the pool so it may occupy the entire body of water.

You may still apply more Bio-Active™ Cyanuric Acid Reducer incrementally to reach the amount of reduction you desire. It is recommended you measure your Cyanuric Acid levels 7 days after the initial treatment. If required another dosage of product may be applied.

It is recommended that the entire contents of Bio-Active™ be applied onto the pool for best results. As long as you have adequate sanitizer levels in the pool the natural feed back loop will prevent Bio-Active™ from reducing your Cyanuric Acid levels below the recommended safe range. If your pool ends up having less Cyanuric Acid than desired then you may simply add more to balance out your pool chemistry.

It is recommended that you apply all necessary dosages at once for maximum effect, so it is recommended that you estimate how much of a dosage your pool will need by determining exact levels of Cyanuric Acid to the amount of gallons being treated prior to applying the dosage.

First, determine the quantity of water that will be treated in your pool. Second, divide that amount by 25,000 gallons. The resulting number will represent the quantity of 8oz pouches you will need. The natural feedback loop and functionallity of Bio-Active™ will still be valid even if pool size and product dosage is increased.

One of three things may be happening: pool temperatures or chlorine levels may be outside of the acceptable range for application, insufficient quantities of Bio-Active™ are in the pool for treatment, or the testing kit may be compromised. Pool water temperature range for application is 65° and 140° Fahrenheit (18° to 60° Celsius). Chlorine should be below 5 ppm with 2-3 ppm being ideal at the time of and for the week following application. It is highly recommended that the pool be within these ranges so the best results can be reached, so it may be possible that an ideal result has not been reached because the pool is outside these ranges. It is also important to ensure that the entire contents of product be applied onto the pool to achieve results as well as to ensure that Bio-Active™ be thoroughly mixed throughout the entire body of water for full effect. Ensure it is a fresh and unopened package prior to use to ensure efficacy. Additionally, if the pool experiences significant water loss due to drainage or swimmers splashing out water during the treatment process, it may be possible that Bio-Active™ could be lost and performance could be reduced. Most test kits that check for Cyanuric Acid are limited to showing results only at 100 ppm or less, so if the pool has levels approaching 150, 200, 250 ppm or more, most test may STILL only yield a result of 100 ppm. If this is the case and Bio-Active™ is applied in a pool, it is likely that a reduction was achieved but there is no way the test kit could measure that reduction. We recommend that you test your pool using a vial & reagent test kit and if you see Cyanuric Acid readings at 100 ppm or more, perform a dilution test to determine the exact reading of Cyanuric Acid in your pool. This is why it is important to get an exact reading of Cyanuric Acid levels in your pool before treatment.

It is important to get an exact reading of Cyanuric Acid levels in your pool before treatment, so we recommend that you test your pool using a vial & reagent test kit. If you see Cyanuric Acid readings at 100 ppm or more while testing, perform a dilution test to determine the exact reading of Cyanuric Acid in your pool. To do this simply mix the test water with half pool water and half fresh water (tap water would be ok), and test again. If the reading falls 50%, the first test can then be considered accurate. If the reading is still above 100 ppm, dilute the pool water/fresh water mix with an equal part of fresh water and test again. This reading should be multiplied by 4 to determine the accurate level of Cyanuric Acid in your pool. If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to contact us.

Multiple studies have now confirmed that CYA levels over 100ppm is damaging to pool plaster surfaces. If pool water has elevated CYA levels for extended periods of time the plaster surfaces are degraded and become porous and often abrasive to the touch. This is a key reason why it is important to manage CYA levels in plaster surfaced pools. In pools with porous plaster surfaces CYA can become immobilized in the plaster and when Bio-Active™ is first applied this CYA is released back into the water. For this reason starting levels of CYA in these pools is often under reported on testing and can be much higher than the pool owner realizes. Very high starting levels of CYA can require multiple treatments with Bio-Active™ to bring CYA levels down to the safe range. Is there anything else to know when testing CYA levels?

Cyanuric Acid can dry inside your test equipment with repeated use and when testing water with Bio-Active™ present this can release the dried Cyanuric Acid providing false high readings. We recommend that you thoroughly scrub and flush your test equipment after every test and prior to re-testing to ensure you are obtaining accurate measurements.
